
Özgür Öztop Çakmak graduated from Ankara University School of Medicine as a medical doctor. She did her neurology residency at Göztepe Training and Research Hospital. Her thesis investigated hyperechogenity of the substantia nigra in patients with essential tremor. During her neurology residency she worked as an observer at Movement Disorders Section of the Sant Pau Hospital in Barcelona. She has been working as a neurologist since the beginning of the Koç University Hospital. Currently, she is a PhD student at Koç University Neuroscience program at KUTTAM-NDAL. The PhD studies of Dr. Özgür Öztop Çakmak primarily focus on the molecular architectures of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and hereditary ataxias. Özgür aims to understand the complex genetics of movement disorders and to investigate promising treatment approaches in neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Öztop Çakmak spends her free time with her children and she likes photography.
