Recent Themes in Motor Neuron Biology and Neurodegeneration
Dear Colleagues, Dear Guests,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is a great honor and a distinct pleasure to welcome you to the 3rd Suna Kıraç Conference on Neurodegeneration: Recent Themes in Motor Neuron Biology, to be held in Istanbul, on June 23-26, 2011.
The Conference marks the third of a series of Suna Kıraç Conferences on Neurodegeneration, Istanbul, which are symposia jointly organized by the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation and Boğaziçi University, in collaboration with colleagues from Harvard University and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The Suna Kıraç Conference series embraces multiple subjects pertinent to understanding and treating degenerative diseases of the central nervous system in a multi-disciplinary manner, presented by world-renowned scientists. This year's Conference will focus on recent themes in motor neuron biology and neurodegeneration, with emphasis on ALS, but a scope that covers neurodegeneration more generally. Traditionally hosted at the beautiful Pera Museum of the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation, this year the Conference is accompanied by an exhibition entitled Fundamentally Human: Contemporary Art and Neuroscience, which is curated by Prof. Suzanne Anker from the New York School of Visual Arts.
The conference location, İstanbul, is unique in its geography and complex mixture of the East and West and has been a center of civilization and the capital of three influential empires through its 8000-years-long history. Along with the conference, which will review state of the art research in motor neuron biology, we invite our guests to take advantage of the many sights, the city has to offer. We are confident that you will enjoy discovering İstanbul's rich and multi-faceted culture and natural beauty, accompanied by traditional Turkish hospitality.
We look forward to welcoming you in İstanbul and feel privileged.
